We’re delighted to be supporting Dementia UK in the coming year and what better way to get that started than a Christmas Gathering Fund raiser on Sunday 8 December 3.00 – 6.00pm [link to workshop]
There is an increasing body of evidence showing that regularly doing creative hobbies helps to protect the neurons in our brains. This in turn appears to have protective benefits to help stave off dementia.
Although the study dates back to 2015, our attention was recently drawn to it by the late Michael Mosely in his BBC One TV recording Just One Thing (available to watch on BBC iplayer).
Scientists at the Mayo Clinic found that people who participate in arts and crafts are up to 73% less likely to develop memory loss which often leads to dementia. Dr Rosebud Roberts who authored the study in the journal Neurology is a member of the American Academy of Neurology.
